Black & White Challenge - Day Two

So I may have cheated a little with this one but I don't care. Day two was supposed to be a black base with white. I feel that, artistically speaking, I have fulfilled the criteria with my design.

Black Base With White

What I used:
OPI Natural Nail Base Coat
Icing - Jet Black
China Glaze - Some Like It Haute
Sinful Colors - Snow Me White
China Glaze - Fast Foward Top Coat
Bundle Monster - Plate BM17

I tried using Sinful Colors Snow Me White again. It works much better for stamping than it does for painting an entire nail. Also, the China Glaze top coat did not really streak my stamped designs this time. The only complaint I have about how my nails turned out is I wish I could seem more glitter and sparkle.

What do you think of this design? Would you wear it?
Do you like doing the tips or do you stay away from it?

NYX Matte Lipstick Swatches

Yay! I love matte lipsticks! Maybe it is because my lips are so large, but I feel most comfortable lately without a ton of shine on my lips. Either way I have three of NYX's Matte Lipstick to share with you. I really enjoyed them an I think I may pick up some more.

Packaging

Sweet Pink

Tea Rose

Indie Flick

Swatches

Sweet Pink, Tea Rose, Indie Flick

I love indie flick! I never, ever, in a million years thought I would want an orange leaning red lipstick. Indie Flick is so vibrant and red you can't help but love it. I actually already picked up a back up (I should do that with Haute Melon too!) Tea Rose is not what I expected, but I really like it. It seems like it could be a sister to Illamasqua Scandal. (I will try to remember to take a comparison shot for you) I think it may also be somewhat similar to Kat Von D Lovecraft? I think a lot of people could wear this color to work. It seems subdued enough to pass but I think it would certainly NOT be boring. Sweet Pink is also not what I expected. It seems depending on the light, it looks very purple! That is not a bad thing, but I just imagined it would be more pink because it has pink in the name. Sweet pink will definitely be going in my collection of bright lipstick for sure!

What do you think of these lipstick? Do you like matte lipstick or is there a different finish you just love? What other NYX or matte lipsticks would you suggest I try?

Black & White Challenge - Day One

Hey everyone! This is a quick post today. I just wanted to share my first nail design I did for day one of the black and white challenge.

Day One: White Base with Black

Sinful Colors-Snow Me White
Icing - Jet Black
Bundle Monster Plate BM16

I must say I am disapointed with how this manicure turned out. I do not like using white polishes. This one was somewhat thick and bubbled a ton on me. I find that this tends to be a common issue with white and yellows. They are either too thick or too thin. I also am not a fan of my top coat (China Glaze Fast Foward) streaked some of my stamping. I may not have waited long enough for it to completely dry and that my be my fault and not the top coat. I feel like if this was not as messy, or didn't chip the same day, I may have liked it more. What do you think?

Illamasqua Scandal Swatches

Today I want to share with you my first ever Illamasqua lipstick. I have heard so many great things about this brand and I really don't know why I never purchased from them before now. They are totally up my alley and I am so glad I finally purchased this lipstick to see what the hubub was all about.

Swatches

First of all I really like the packaging. The lipstick tube is very sturdy. Second, I love this color. It is an all around always appropriate color. I think anyone could wear this anytime. This is a very nice somewhat coral dusty pink. Lately I have really fallen in love with corals. For lips, for cheeks, for eyes, I am totally infatuated with corals. One of the reasons I love coral is not just because it is a pretty color, it is a universally flattering color so I know I will always look good. How many more times can I say the word "coral?"

What do you think of Illamasqua? Do you own anything, lipstick, blush, eyeshadow? What would you suggest I try?
Do you have the same love for corals as I do or do you find them overrated?

MAC Swatches - (I Broke My No-Buy, Time To Get Back On The Wagon)

Now is the time to have a serious heart to heart, kinda. By now you may have found out - and I feel quite guilty about it - that I have totally smashed my 100 day no-buy. I was doing really well, making a list of everything I liked. Then all of a sudden *BAM* I was overcome with this urge to purchase stuff. I was not feeling well emotionally. I have been quite stressed lately and I wasn't dealing with life well. I take full responsibility for my actions, and am trying to correct them.

I wanted to be honesty with everyone who reads my blog. Reading some blogs can get you do. It seems like everyone is so perfect and happy. Always. That is just not the case. Everyone has good and bad days. Bad habits and wonderful success. I don't blame people for only wanting to share the good. But sometimes, it is better to be honest to your readers, your friends, instead of ignoring a big part of your day, life, self. This is why I feel that I -HAVE- to share this with you. When all my packages arrive I will probably do a collective haul or something. Some things will be from before the no-buy. (I promise I didn't go -that- crazy)

But today, with all of that behind me, my credit card hidden, and a plan to fix and start saving again I want to share with you my first ever MAC purchase. I had been lusting over a few of this for a long time and just cracked and went out immediatly to see them in person, and subsequently take them home with me. I went in with a limit of 100$. I refused to spend anymore than that. I did good. I came out 60$ poorer and 4 lipsticks richer. I picked up:

Viva Glam Nicki - bright yellow pink
Watch Me Simmer - bright pink-orange
Impassioned - amped-up fuchsia
Vegas Volt - full power coral

Watch Me Simmer

Vegas Volt

I am overall happy with my purchase. I am not sure if Nicki looks good on me, but I am ok with that because the money goes to a good cause. I really like Vegas Volt. I am pretty sure that OCC Lip Tar in Grandma is a dupe. Impassioned is a very pretty color and I think I may have a dupe for that as well. I wanted Watch Me Simmer from the MAC COOK, MAC SHOP(?) collection and missed out so I scooped it up this time.

Top- OCC Trollop
Middle- WNW Pinkerbell, MAC Nicki, MAC Watch Me Simmer, NYX Haute Melon, MAC Impassioned,
NYX Haute Melon, MAC Vegas Volt, OCC Grandma
Bottom- WNW Don't Blink Pink

What do you think of the colors I chose? Have you ever just kinda lost your mind when it comes to purchases?

Black And White Nail Art Challenge

I love a challenge. I may not always succeed, but I love having something to shoot for. I have been seeing tons of challenges on blogs lately so I decided to try it out myself. I chose this one because it seems like I could do most of these without any serious issues. I also thought this would be a great way to introduce more nail art and nail polish swatch content for the blog. Yay! (Then maybe I will try the 31 day nail art challenge. Depending on my success with this one.)

What do you think about these challenges? Do you like them or find them to be lame?
Do they help you get out of a creativity rut?
Will you try to do this with me and all the other bloggers working through it? It will be fun, I promise!

Top 10 Lip Colors For Spring 2012

Hello everybody! Today is a quick post again. I wanted to share my second top 10 spring colors video. Today is all about lipsticks. I will have swatches to go with this once I get a hold of a camera again.

My top 10:
1) NYX Matte Lipstick- Indie Flick
2) OCC Lip Tar - Grandma
3) Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain - Passion
4) OCC Lip Tar - Harlot
5) NARS - Barbarella
6) Illamasqua - Scandal
7) NYX - Stella
8) Darling Girl - Coraline
9) Kiss My Sass - Georgia Kiss
10) OCC Lip Tar - Strumpet

I tried to get a nice mix and I had a very hard time picking only 10. I tried to pick some that were on trend for this spring - ie tangerine tango and/or neon! I tried to keep a wide range of brands and prices as well. I really like NYX Indie Flick and recently discovered Haute Melon (which I have been wearing for a week straight now). I also have a deep love for OCC Lip Tars so I just had to put a few in this list.

What do you think of these colors? Do any of these colors appeal to you? (swatches coming soon)
What colors do you find yourself reaching for in the spring time?
